                                           Opera 5.0 for Macintosh

This is the Final release of Opera 5.0 for Mac OS 7.5.3 - 9.2

Note that following technologies are not realized/ported in this version:
* Unicode
* Full screen view

before submitting bugs. This page contains a list of bugs that happens
frequently, and information on how to fix them until a new release of
Opera is available. Bugs that are not reported there can be submitted
from <http://bugs.opera.com/bugreport.cgi>. Build information will be
entered automatically.

A very good way to ask questions and get feedback from the Opera Mac
team is to use the opera.mac news group on news.opera.com. The

Bookmarks
* Enabled possibility to drag an Opera bookmark file from finder into an
   open hotlist window to merge them.
* Hotlist window now accepts dragging multiple items.
* New, revised context menu for hotlist. More consistency, fewer
   irrelevant items, fewer submenus.
* Clicking the zoom box now resizes the hotlist window correctly.
* Up/dn-arrow and enter will now navigate search results directly.
* Match words anywhere in the URL, name, description or nickname.
   Search bookmarks now also searches the URL field. Tab can be used for
   switching between the hotlist and the search field. Fixed a bug that
   made the search lag a character or two.
* Docking of bookmarks now possible.

Bug fixes
* Fixed most of the problems that arise from opening files with
   backslashes in the name.
* Forms popups & pushbuttons should now be more likely to display with
   the correct font.
* Now gets various common unicode characters: curly quotes, angle
   quotes, daggers, ellipsis, trademark and others.
* Fixed some cache problems.
* Fixed missing spaces in view source.
* Personal information: switching between fields with tab now works
   correctly.
* Fixed bug in searching bookmarks with a wildcard.

* More AppleScript bugfixing.
* Toolbars: Did a few good cleanups and fixed a bunch of cosmetic bugs.
* Fixed hidden IFRAME bug.
* <carriage return> now accepted in bookmark description.
* Opera can now open files with slashes in the path. Quotation marks
   still broken. Most characters from ISO-8859-1 should work, but not
   Mathematical symbols.
* Fixed some cache problems. Images and CSS still doesn't load properly
   during startup or if you type 3 URLs (very) quickly.

* Submit and Reset no longer displays wrong text when using
   history-back.
* Bookmark scrolling is now 14 pixels instead of 1.
* Sometimes dialogs would contain strange characters instead of
   breaking to the next line. Fixed.
* Menu checkmarks are no longer square-root characters.
* Fixed vertical alignment of toolbar buttons.
* ButtonSet now brings up a decent dialog box telling you which line and
   column contains the bug, if there's error in the XML-file.
* Single-select forms now supported.
* International characters are now supported in the Address-field,
   Search-field and Go to Address dialog.
* Crash related to missing Navigation Services (MacOS 8) is fixed.

Major changes in TP2 for Mac OS 7.5.3 - 9.2:
* The Plug-Ins are now stored in the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder.
   You will find this folder inside the System Folder.
   If you do not see this folder currently, start Opera.
   Opera will now ask the system to create the folder.
* Major changes in Bookmarks handling and works together with the
   next release of URL Manager Pro. Some functions will work with
   older versions of URL Manager Pro.
* The bookmark file in the preferences folder now have an icon.
* HTTPS is now *much* better.
* Bookmark file now copied to preferences folder when it exists in the
   Opera home folder and it does not exist in the preference folder.
   This means that you will no longer loose your bookmarks when
   updating to a newer version.
* Technology Preview / Beta Agreement dialog box now movable modal,
   allows AppleEvents to be executed, which again means Opera no longer
   hangs when executed by AppleEvents.
* Scroll bars should behave a little better now... There is still
   something wrong with the position in certain circumstances.
* Tested with URL Manager (history still not implemented).
* No longer displays the transfer window when restoring transfers
* Fixed potential problem with scrolling invalid areas. Scrolling
   fixed elements works better.
* Enabled shared menus globally.
* Printing pages with IFRAMEs no longer crashes.
* Compatible with Keychain and other applications using Keychain Internet
   Password.
* Proxy icon added.
* Special characters pasted into address field are ignored.
* Reworked the keyboard shortcuts.
* Connects to opera websites after expiring. Please notice: ftp-sites
   cannot be accessed. Use the HTTP download sites to get a new version
   when Opera is expired.
* Contextual menus now MacOS native.

Tips and tricks:

* Take a look at Buttons.xml and the howto.txt. You can modify your
   button setup,so the buttons appear in the toolbars exactly like you
   want them to. (try searching for "StopLarge.gif", "HappyMac.gif" and
   "Validate.gif")

* If you own a Kensington mouse, you might want to setup DirectLaunch
   buttons for
   opera:previous
   opera:next
   opera:reload
   opera:add to bookmarks
   opera:cycle windows back
   opera:cycle windows forward
   opera:URL("http://www.mypage.com")

-All you have to do extra, is to go to the internet control panel and
  under advanced add Opera as a helper application for type "opera".
